Susan Boyle Takes Break From 'Britain's Got Talent' Tour

Susan Boyle, who became famous the world over after appearing on the "Britain's Got Talent" television show, hopes to return to the stage on Monday after cancelling a weekend performance amid concerns over her health.

Despite nearly a week's rest at a mental-health clinic following her shocking second-place finish on "Britain's Got Talent," it seems Susan Boyle was not quite ready for the limelight. The singer, whose instant rise to fame on the reality competition proved to be a bit too much, performed on the initial dates of the tour on Friday and Saturday, but pulled out of two shows in Manchester, England, on Sunday, according to BBC News.

On opening night on the "Britain's Got Talent", she performed renditions of the songs that made her a viral-video superstar — with nearly 200 million YouTube views and counting "I Dreamed a Dream" from "Les Misérables" and "Memory" from "Cats." By Saturday, however, during two shows in Sheffield, she reportedly stumbled over the words to "Memory" and got what was described as a "mixed" reaction from the audience.

A spokesperson for the 48-year-old Boyle said she had been advised to rest "following three sensational performances." When fans arrived at the Manchester Evening News Arena on Sunday, they were greeted by notices announcing that Boyle would not be performing at the matinee and evening shows. "She sends her sincere apologies to her fans for not appearing in Manchester," her spokesperson said. The crowd in Manchester reportedly booed when one of the show's hosts announced that Boyle would not be performing and showed a clip reel of her time on the show instead.

It was unclear at press time if Boyle would make it back on the stage for Monday's shows in Glasgow, in her home country of Scotland. A spokesperson said organizers have not ruled out Boyle's participation in the rest of the 21-date tour, which is slated to crisscross the U.K. until the end of June.
