Paula Abdul Leaving American Idol?

Over the weekend, Paula Abdul's manager announced that the the judge was unsure whether she would return to "American Idol" and referred to the ongoing contract negotiations "hurtful. The Fox reality competition Abdul has helped judge since its 2002 inception may be cutting her from its payroll. According to Abdul's manager, David Sonenberg, "Idol" hasn't offered her a formal contract proposal for season nine contract, whose auditions are already underway. "Very sadly, it does not appear that she's going to be back on Idol," Sonenberg told the Los Angeles Times last week. "I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful," he added. "I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven't stepped up and said what they want to do." Britney Spears Refuses To Take Sons To Russia After Receiving Death Threats

Britney Spears is not taking any chances when it comes to the safety of her children. The 27-year-old pop star feared for the safety of her sons after allegedly receiving a series of menacing messages through email. She originally planned to bring Sean Preston and Jayden James for her "Circus" shows in St. Petersburg and Moscow, but ultimately decided to just leave them in London with her family. Spears is said to be living in Finland, and will flyi to the country for two concerts, in St. Petersburg and Moscow. After the July 21 concert in the Russian capital, Spears plans to fly to London via private jet to reunite with her sons, Sean Preston, 3, and Jayden James, 2. "Originally, both boys were to accompany Britney, but she was against taking them because of these constant threats," a tour spokesman said.

Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Has Cancer

In a video posted Monday (July 20) onBeastieBoys.com, Adam "MCA" Yauch announced that he has cancer and the group is canceling all upcoming shows (and pushing back the release of their Hot Sauce Committee, Part One album) while he receives treatment for it. In a posting on the band's website, Yauch reveals a cancerous tumour in his left salivary gland will need surgery. He is expected to fully recover. "I just need a little time to get this in check and then we'll release the record and play some shows," he wrote. Hot Sauce Committee Part I was due to be released on 15 September. The band had been due to play a number of headlining slots at festivals across the US, including the Lollapalooza event. One of the act's last live performances was at Tennessee's Bonnaroo music festival last month.
