Brooke Shields Calls Michael Jackson 'Asexual'
Brooke Shields was 13 when she first met Michael Jackson and the two "instantly became friends" — mainly because sexual tension was off the table."Nothing was jaded about him," the 44-year-old actress told Rolling Stone magazine for a special commemorative issue about the King of Pop, on sale Friday.
Although I wasn't old enough to develop an infatuation with Brooke Shields' post-"Blue Lagoon" eyebrows or lust after her Calvins, I can look back at those pics and get it. Seriously. Especially this one.
But the one thing I never quite understood was her friendship with Michael Jackson. The two couldn't have seemed more like polar opposites. And despite what Paula Abdul has taught us, opposites do not always attract.
However in her first interview since the King of Pop's passing, Brooke tells Rolling Stone that their lack of sexual chemistry is exactly what made the relationship work. For Brooke, being "the most celebrated virgin ever" had its upsides, namely it made her the antithesis of every other double X chromosome Michael knew.
Women "wanted to throw themselves at [Michael]," Brooke says, adding that most tried to get in his pants because they felt like "they were going to teach him [about sex]." But Brooke never saw a romantic side of the man who became "more asexual" in her eyes as they grew up.
"He was like a little kid who talked about the bases -- what first base was, what second base was," Brooke said. "It sounded very odd to the outside, I can imagine, but to the inside, to someone who's never really left his bubble, you can understand how he would be curious."
And the fast friendship they developed decades ago was still going strong the last time Brooke saw Michael, at Elizabeth Taylor's 1991 wedding (guess my invite got lost in the mail). "We snuck in and took pictures of ourselves next to her dress," Brooke remembers. "We always seemed to revert to being little kids."
