"American Idol" champion Kris Allen to sing at NBA finals

"Idol" winner Kris Allen will sing the U.S. national anthem on Sunday before the second game of the NBA finals, pairing the winner of TV's top-rated talent show with U.S. professional basketball's biggest series.

"Idol" winner Kris Allen will be singing the U.S. National anthem before the second game of the NBA finals on Sunday. Reuters wrote this wasn't the first time the NBA had idols sing for them. In the past, they worked with Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. It has now become a NBA tradition for "Idol" singers to perform before the game.

23-year-old Allen, a student from Arkansas, won the 2009 season of the popular singing contest, defeating presumed front-runner Adam Lambert who was known for his outlandish style.

Allen will serenade basketball fans at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, when the Los Angeles Lakers play the Orlando Magic. The Lakers routed the Magic in the first game Thursday night, winning 100-75. Allen's version of the anthem will be broadcast live on ABC
at 8 p.m. EDT.

Although Allen will be singing before the Lakers vs. Orlando Magic game he is no Lakers fan but does want to meet Kobe Bryant. He's a boy from Arkansas and loves all home town things. LA Times reported Allen has no plans to change any of the anthem's lyrics as some singers have done before. Allen says, “I just want to get through it and not make any mistakes.”
